WELCOME TO THE CENTER FOR SIMULATIONS & VIRTUAL ENVIRONMENTS RESEARCH (UCSIM)
Unleashing the human potential for discovery, creativity, and play with immersive technologies.
The Center for Simulations & Virtual Environments Research (UCSIM) strives to be a center of excellence in world-class immersive technology research, solving urgent real-world problems in safe virtual spaces, re-imagining the university experience with virtual and augmented reality, and creating transformative immersive experiences that unleash the human potential for discovery, creativity, and play. Our multidisciplinary approach combines expertise in computer simulations, 3D modeling and design, and internet enabled social and virtual reality software to create educational and practical applications of virtual worlds, augmented reality, 3D immersive and virtual spaces, simulations, and “serious games.”
Students and faculty can expect to see a wealth of virtual and augmented reality technologies in their local electronics store in the coming year and the Center for Simulations & Virtual Environments Research (UCSIM) will be ready to help. After much anticipation, the first consumer version of the Oculus Rift virtual reality head mounted display (HMD) is expected to launch in Q1 2016, and more news will be coming about augmented reality devices from Google Glass and Microsoft HoloLens.
We look forward to working with the campus community to explore their creative ideas for using virtual reality in teaching, learning, and research in the coming year.
