University of Cincinnati students often contact UCSIM to request assistance, information, or resources to help with a student project or senior capstone project. We are always happy to answer questions or provide information about immersive technology software, hardware, and related tools.
If the request is more involved however, for example to provide advising or guidance for an immersive technology project, or to borrow equipment, then we may be able to help, depending upon schedule or equipment availability and complexity of the project.
How Does It Work?
Our involvement usually begins with an initial meeting to discuss your project ideas and timelines. The more detailed or specific your project idea, the more likely it is that we will be able to assist you.
Once we have had an initial meeting, the next step is to create a project plan document that outlines the project’s purpose, goals, requirements, sponsors, timelines and milestones, and if necessary, budget. All student projects that will be submitted for credit or for senior capstone projects must be reviewed and approved by the appropriate faculty member or advisor prior to commencing the project. If equipment is to be provided, students will be required to complete the UCSIM Equipment Loan Agreement form.
During the project period, regular meetings will be scheduled with the UCSIM team to help keep the project on-time and on-track. Students will be expected to report on their progress and demonstrate prototypes or works-in-progress in order for UCSIM staff to provide meaningful feedback.
As the project reaches its conclusion, UCSIM staff can also provide user-testing and assistance reviewing documentation. Students will also be given a brief survey to get feedback about their experience working with UCSIM.
